Tons of sand, a water slide, DJ, foam pool and more are in Pasadena Thursday from 4-9 p.m. for a free urban beach event organized by DayOne, Side Street Projects and many others.
The "beach" is at 730 North Fair Oaks Avenue, where nine days of free events will happen through Aug. 9.
"We had nine days to do something really meaningful," DayOne executive director Christy Zamani told Patch at the urban beach Thursday.
As for the location, usually a Side Street Projects stop for ArtNight Pasadena, Zamani wanted the events to be somewhere the community needed it and where transportation wasn't a problem.
"When we do a beach field trip, many kids say they've never been to the beach," said Zamani.
Other events through Aug. 9 include dancing, Gospel brunch, bike-in movie, a service day and more.
"We hope to leave the neighborhood better than we found it," said Zamani.
