Pasadena Unified API Scores Dip Overall

Pasadena Unified students showed a dip in state Academic Performance Index scores that were released by the state on Tuesday, going from 762 in 2012 to 751 in 2013.

The state as a whole also showed an overall drop, from 791 to 789.  The state's target score is 800 - overall 56 percent of elementary schools, 50 percent of middle schools, and 31 percent of high schools made that mark.

PUSD superintendent Jon Gundry attributed the drop in scores to budget cuts.

"The impact of the deep budget cuts of the last several years can be seen in the dip of scores at the district and state level, demonstrating that a 16% reduction in district revenues since 2008-2009 does have a lasting impact on the academic careers of students," wrote Gundry in a press release. 

Within the district, Sierra Madre Elementary had the top overall score of 905, though that was down from 914 in 2012.
