Number of Pasadena’s Homeless Population Hits Record Low

Economic recovery and new city strategies in addressing homelessness are credited for the declining numbers.

An annual city survey revealed that Pasadena’s homeless numbers are the lowest in more than decade, according to a story in the Pasadena Sun.

Volunteers with the Pasadena Homeless Count, which took place Jan. 23, counted 772 homeless living in outdoor spaces, cars or in homeless shelters. According to the results, that is a 15 percent drop from the 904 homeless documented in January 2012.

In 2011, there were 1,216 homeless people living in Pasadena. This year’s numbers are the lowest since the city began counting its homeless population in 2000.
