Christopher Dorner's shootout with authorities and the State of the Union ruled most media this past week, so here's a roundup of some Patch coverage you have have missed:

  • Holy Angels School in Arcadia was shut down for a few days because its pastor was related to someone named in Dorner's lengthy manifesto.
  • It's often said that sparks fly around Valentine's Day, but that was especially true when Southern California Edison officials demonstrated what happens when mylar balloons (like the ones people buy for Valentine's Day) come in contact with power lines. 
  • A pair of Burbank men have been charged with the murder of a 25-year-old man whose body was found by the Montrose Search and Rescue team near a "shallow grave" in the Angeles National Forest in January.
  • A man South Pasadena Police say tried to pry open an apartment door stopped and fled once he saw a neighbor watching him, authorities said. A short while later and several streets away, Det. Bill Early said, authorities arrested Arturo Chavez, 40, of Downey on suspicion of attempted burglary and conspiracy. 
  • A couple was arrested near the California-Mexican border early Monday morning in a brand new pickup truck authorities believe was stolen from the Colley Ford dealership in Glendora over the weekend.
