Police Share More Details in Cycling Fatality Near Caltech

A bicyclist in his 30s riding near the Caltech campus was fatally struck by a vehicle, a police lieutenant said today, offering new details about Saturday night's crash.

It was not immediately known if the bicyclist was a student, staff or instructor at Caltech, said Pasadena police Lt. Jason Clawson. The man was struck about 6 p.m. Saturday in the 1100 block of East Del Mar Boulevard, Clawson said.

Paramedics rushed him to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead, he said. The motorist not cited or arrested, the police lieutenant said. The name of the bicyclist will be released pending notification of next of kin, according to the Coroner's Office.
