Man Accused of Burglary Through Doggy Door Pleads Not Guilty
The Pasadena man and three others are suspected of stealing electronics, jewelry and the ashes of the homeowners' parents.
A Pasadena man accused of being involved in a burglary in which he and others allegedly entered a home through a doggy door five days before Christmas pleaded not guilty Friday.
Alexander Canela, 18, is charged with one count of first-degree residential burglary involving the alleged break-in at about 1 p.m. Dec. 20 at a house in the 900 block of North Madison Avenue.
Two 16-year-olds and one 17-year-old -- all from Pasadena -- were also arrested in connection with the burglary, but there was no immediate information on any case against them.

Police said after the break-in that four people were caught on a nearby security camera that captured their digital images.
About $23,000 worth of property was taken during the burglary, including televisions, computers and tablets, sports memorabilia, jewelry and World War II medals, along with the cremated remains of the resident's parents, according to the District Attorney's Office.

Some of the electronic items were recovered, police said.
Canela is being held on $50,000 bail. He is due back in Pasadena Superior Court Jan. 16 and faces up to six years in state prison if convicted as charged, according to the District Attorney's Office.
