UPDATED: Fire Reported at Pasadena School, One Building a 'Total Loss'

More than $1 million in damages done by the fire. The cause of the fire is not known.

UPDATED 12:55 p.m.: Lisa Derderian of the Pasadena Fire Department said the fire caused $1.5 million to the structure and $250,000 to its contents.

How the fire started was not immediately known. The fire was just off Lincoln Avenue, two blocks north of John Muir Junior High School.

The charter school is also known as the Neighbors Acting Together Helping All (NATHA) day center, according to a department statement.

Once the fire was out, officials discovered that a storage building owned by the school had been broken into overnight. It was unclear what time the break-in occurred, said Pasadena police Sgt. Ed Calatayud.

The storage building is separated from the school by a parking lot, and despite the proximity of the fire and the burglary, the two incidents may be unrelated, Calatayud said.

He said police had no indication that the school had been burglarized.
