I’m grateful that Congresswoman Judy Chu has written legislation to permanently protect the San Gabriel Mountains. I support this move because it will be good for our quality of life in the San Gabriel Valley. These mountains make up 70% of our region’s open space, and provide us with much-needed fresh air and drinking water.
I hike and camp there on the weekends, taking in the trails and views and clearing my head. Spending time in the outdoors has been especially important after my time in the Marines – and I know that many other veterans feel the same way about our beautiful outdoor spaces. They offer us an opportunity to get away from it all and feel grounded in nature.
It has been inspiring to see the local support for this bill growing. I would be grateful indeed to know that these lands are permanently protected for the next generation, and I respect Representative Chu’s vision to preserve this beautiful mountain range in our backyard.
