Free July Activities at the Pasadena Senior Center

The following information on Pasadena Senior Center activities comes from the City of Pasadena.

* Friday Movie Matinees – July 12 and 19 at 1 p.m. A great movie allows us to enter and escape into its world. July 12: “Quartet” (2012) starring Maggie Smith, Tom Courtenay, Billy Connolly and Pauline Collins and directed by Dustin Hoffman; July 19: “An American in Paris” (1951) starring Gene Kelly, Leslie Caron and Oscar Levant and directed by Vincente Minnelli.

* Memory Loss Education and Support – Wednesdays, July 17, 24, 31 and Aug. 7 at 10 a.m. Join us for our Brain Health series. Session 1: Memory Loss and Aging; Session 2: The Basics of Memory Loss, Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease; Session 3: Know the 10 Signs – Early Detection Matters; Session 4: Hypertension, Diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease. * Financial Future – Thursday, July 18, at 10 a.m. Planning for your future begins with setting clearly defined goals and putting together a financial plan to achieve those goals upon retirement. Learn how to plan for your financial future.

* Jazz and Swing from A to Z with Dr. Thom Mason – Monday, July 22, at 1 p.m. Enjoy recordings, rare photos, film clips, anecdotal stories and, of course, live jazz presentations by this nationally recognized educator and jazz performer. Learn about Satchmo, Bix, Ella, Duke, Lady Day, the Count, the King of Swing and other jazz royalty.

* Care and Use of Hearing Aids – Thursday, July 25, at 10 a.m. Modern hearing aids are low-care but not no-care. Learn how to troubleshoot problems, establish good habits and maximize benefits from your investment.

* Book Club at the Center – Friday, July 26, at 1 p.m. Read “The Dark Room” by Rachael Seiffert and then join other members of the Senior Center Book Club for a discussion. The absorbing, internationally acclaimed novel explores the modern German psyche through the experiences of three ordinary people. For more information call Judy Starlight at (626) 685-6706.

Founded in 1959, the Pasadena Senior Center is an independent, nonprofit agency that offers recreational, educational, wellness and social services to people ages 50 and over in a friendly environment. Services are also provided for frail, low-income and homebound seniors.
