Where to See Floats Before and After Rose Parade

There will be plenty of opportunity to see the intricately-decorated floats before and after the parade.

For more than 120 years the Rose Parade has rung in the new year with intricately-decorated floats, music and sports.

You can catch an up-close glimpse of the floats at designated times and locations before or after the parade held on Jan. 1.

The 2013 parade theme is "Oh, the Places You'll Go!" borrowed from children's book author Dr. Seuss.

Tickets to see the floats can be purchased for $10 per person and are limited to venue capacity. Children 5 years old and under are free.

Thousands of people from all over are expected to attend, read our Rose Parade 2013 Parking Guide to find convenient places to park.

Will the shuttle buses be running from PCC on Foothill Blvd. again this year?
Claudia Conroy December 23, 2012 at 06:43 PM
Can they still be viewed on orange grove as they line them up the night before parade?
George December 24, 2012 at 07:56 AM
It is have been a new years morning tradition in my family to begin the day watching the fantastic Rose parade ever since I was a child. The tradition continues all these years later. Parade hosts Stephanie Edwards and Bob Ubanks are like a member of my family.

Dave, according to the Tournament of Roses website, you can park at Pasadena Community College for shuttle service to the parade, though I don't know what time the shuttle starts running. http://www.tournamentofroses.com/TheRoseParade/Events/tabid/1535/ModuleID/3717/ItemID/45/mctl/EventDetails/Default.aspx

Yes, we lived for many years on South Orange Grove and just recently moved. Seeing the floats being staged the night before is a great experience. Bring a mug of hot chocolate and enjoy. Just remember that there are road closures if you don't have a resident pass.

We've also compiled a short list of alternative parking options: http://pasadena-ca.patch.com/articles/rose-parade-parking-all-you-need-to-know

This link also tells you where to park and the hours to view, etc. I parked at the Community Education Center last year and that made it SO EASY. And just my two cents of getting there. Go straight up the 605 to 210 West, and you will see the line of traffic leaving Pasadena. DO NOT go up the 710 or 110, unless you want to be part of that traffic on the city streets. http://www.tournamentofroses.com/PasadenaTournamentofRoses/Events/tabid/1482/ModuleID/3601/ItemID/65/mctl/EventDetails/Default.aspx

Another note of interest: Stanford has not won Rose Bowl as the Cardinal. http://www.schoolanduniversity.com/ They won in their final game as Indians: 13-12 over Michigan, 1972
David Lasell December 27, 2012 at 05:18 PM
Yet another note of interest: The only time Stanford played an Ivy League opponent in the Rose Bowl, Columbia 1934, Stanford lost.
HearyehHearyeh December 29, 2012 at 07:40 PM
David, that is an interesting yet unappealing note that is not applicable. The Cardinal team this year is well coached and loaded with talent, especially on defense. I was at the game in 1972 and also the year the Indians won it in 1971 with Jim Plunkett and the Stanford offensive line dominated Jim Stillwagon and the vaunted D-line from Ohio State under Woody Hayes in a 27-17 win for Stanford U.

Are the floats on display just on the 1st & 2nd or will they be there till Friday, when I was planning to go see them?
Redmond Carolipio January 01, 2013 at 10:03 PM
Hi Judy, I called up the city to double check, and unfortunately the floats won't be around to be seen on Friday. Today and tomorrow remain your best chances to see them.
Jim Conkle January 02, 2013 at 02:10 AM
Are all the floats on display tomorrow? And isn't there a charge to see them? Where should we park? Thanks
EZDuzit January 02, 2013 at 02:16 AM
There is a charge to see them and parking is tricky....follow the signs...they should lead you to parking. I believe they have parking at the adjacent school.
Redmond Carolipio January 02, 2013 at 02:21 AM
Hi Jim, the city has some pretty good info for you. It's $10 for tickets, but kids under 5-years-old can go for free. Here's more, and I hope it helps! http://www.tournamentofroses.com/TheRoseParade/Events/tabid/1535/ModuleID/3717/ItemID/45/mctl/EventDetails/Default.aspx

@DaveNewell; thank you for your post. per your tip, from west la, we took the 105 to the 605 N to the 210 W and exited Hill to Pasadena City College. Parked for free, waited about 30 min. after buying shuttle/viewing tix; and went in and enjoyed most of the floats. after an hour of being there, it was getting too crowded so we headed back before the shuttles got too crowded. it was a great day and thanks again for your tip! no traffic going that way.
poupee komenkul January 03, 2013 at 01:29 AM
