#SignforElephants - 15 Minutes to Save Elephants

You have probably heard the depressing news about the elephant poaching crisis in Africa, that 35,000 elephants are killed every year, 100 a day, 1 every 15 minutes -- for ivory trinkets! Unconscionable, right?

It's understandable you'd want to bury your head in the sand, turn the TV louder, go out and get drunk to forget it all. The problem is too vast and overwhelming, too horrific to ponder. It's out of our control: Africa and Asia need to figure it out. What is the point of opening one's heart to such sorrow when there's nothing you can do about it?

Well, there is something you can do, right here at home, sitting in front of your computers.

The US has the second largest market for ivory in the world. That's right. There's an ivory trade in this country. It's true demand for ivory in China is driving the elephant to extinction, but our house here in the US is not clean.

Elephants could be extinct in the wilds of Africa in 7 to 10 years. Unbelievable, right? A majestic species that has roamed the vast continent of Africa for millions of years faces extinction because of human lust for ivory. We can't let this happen! We need to ban the ivory trade worldwide to save this majestic species, and we can start right here in the US.

Grassroots activists have started a "We the People" petition to unequivocally ban the US ivory trade. We have less than 2 weeks to get 90,000 signatures! If we reach 100,000, President Obama will need to respond, giving this crisis the attention it deserves in the media and the momentum toward getting a worldwide ban.

Please SIGN and SHARE the petition:

Consider this: the petition to deport Justin Bieber got over 270,000 signatures. If we can't get 100,000 signatures to save elephants, you'll find me at Altadena Ale House drinking myself into oblivion.
